Microdermabrasion of the face – or a better version of peeling

mikrodermabrazja twarzy

Microdermabrasion is a name that simply can’t be pronounced correctly on the first try. However, it is a popular procedure that a whole lot of patients in cosmetic surgeries opt for. What does it consist of? What types are there? What effects does it have? Are there contraindications to it? I discuss all these issues below.

What does microdermabrasion consist of?

At the very beginning, let’s focus on what microdermabrasion is all about. This treatment is often referred to as micropeeling – and the latter name already gives us much more direction as to what it’s all about. A specialized tool is used to perform peeling, or exfoliation of the epidermis.

All of this is accomplished using only mechanical abrasion. It is noteworthy that microdermabrasion is a variation of peeling, which is used not only to improve the skin of the face, but the entire body. Patients most often opt for the procedure in the décolletage or neck area.

Types of microdermabrasion

There are many different varieties of microdermabrasion. I personally managed to find as many as 5 types, namely:

– diamond microdermabrasion,

– corundum microdermabrasion,

– laser microdermabrasion,

– Oxygen microdermabrasion, also known as oxydermabrasion,

– Water microdermabrasion, also known as hydrabrasion.

Note: on the above names you can easily break your tongue 🙂 .

These methods differ in both the peeling material used and the overall approach to the procedure. For example, diamond microdermabrasion uses special diamond discs, while alumina microdermabrasion uses: alumina crystals.

Okay, but let’s not go into each type of treatment separately. Let’s turn to why microdermabrasion is actually performed?

What are the effects of facial microdermabrasion?

This procedure carries quite a few positives. Among other things, you can count on:

– Exfoliating dead skin in a more precise way than with a standard scrub,

– Removing impurities that have collected on the surface of the skin,

– unclogging pores,

– Reducing wrinkles and even hyperpigmentation and scarring.

In addition to this, microdermabrasion is an excellent preparation for other cosmetic procedures, such as needle mesotherapy, which I have written about in much greater detail in this article: Dermapen – how does micro-needle skin pricking work?

Contraindications to microdermabrasion of the face

The first contraindication to microdermabrasion that comes to mind is, of course, skin breaks, or in human terms, just cuts. Not only would the procedure itself then be excruciatingly painful, but there could be infection… and why risk it? It is better to wait until the wound heals on its own.

The second contraindication is (as with many other facial skin treatments) any type of acne, but mainly rosacea. In addition, warts and herpes are also to the disadvantage of female patients – all such lesions necessarily need to be evaluated by a professional cosmetologist.

There are many more contraindications, and among them are cancer, psoriasis, use of certain types of medications, and even moles. A medical consultation before microdermabrasion treatment of the face (and the rest of the body) is therefore at a premium.

How often should I have facial microdermabrasion?

You can, of course, perform a facial microdermabrasion treatment only once, but most of the effects only appear when you visit your cosmetologist regularly. Micropeeling is most often repeated several (and in some cases even a dozen) times with an interval of several days / several weeks.

Is microdermabrasion recommended?

On many online forums, Internet users recommend microdermabrasion facial treatment, but at the same time warn that you should be patient. And there is nothing surprising about this – most cosmetic procedures must be performed regularly in order to eventually produce the planned results.

Also in favor of microdermabrasion is the fact that it is a relatively inexpensive procedure. Although the details here, of course, depend on the type of microdermabrasion you choose and the price list of the very beauty salon where you choose to have the treatment. However, if you search well enough, you will manage to close in a few hundred zlotys. But be warned – looks come at a price, so in some cases it is better to pay a little more, but be able to enjoy flawless beauty.

Microdermabrasion of the face – summary

You already know what a facial microdermabrasion treatment consists of. Although it sounds intimidating, it is simply a slightly better version of the scrub you are familiar with. It also does not carry many negative side effects, but caution should be exercised with comorbidities.
